Huiping received bachelor and master's degrees from the School of Information, Renmin University of China.

Huiping is the first recipient of the Hue and Pat McCoy Endowed Professorship in Computer Science at New Mexico State University. She is co-PI of the project, Artificial Intelligence for Arid Land Agriculture (AIALA) and co-PI and co-leads the subproject, Data-driven Decision Making, at the iCREDITS Center of Research Excellence in Design of Intelligent Technologies for Smartgrids.

Huping's research interests are in the general areas of data mining, big data, and applied machine learning. In particular, I am interested in creating effective and efficient computational methodologies for the discovery of useful knowledge from complex data (e.g., sequences and graphs) through pre-defined mining requests or ad-hoc queries.
